My dad's nemesis is the thistle, for obvious reason.
Aaron particularly detests dandelions. When it goes to seed, he goes nuts.My current enemy is the cheese weed. Come on, check out these roots! They may look innocent enough above ground, but they've got something ridiculous going on underground. I've been known to spend up to five minutes on one cheese weed, just to get that sucker by the roots! Which is why I'm so daunted by the thriving cheese weed crop in our yard. My neighbor across the cul-de-sac likes to say "a weed is just a plant in the wrong spot." We've got plenty of those. (Wheatgrass, for example. I'll save that story for another day.)
As I've been eagerly looking for our vegetable seeds to sprout, day after day I've seen only weeds. I'm really understanding the phrase "grows like a weed." Maybe in the Garden of Eden fruit trees grew like that. Sounds good to me!

I've never heard of a cheese weed, but they sound terrible...much less fun than that yummy stuff from Switzerland we love at our house.
thankfully you have dad around, or you would probably never even know it was called a cheese weed! i have no idea what the majority of the weeds here in NC are called, so i pretty much call them like i see 'em-- the small curly leaf kind or the skinny long leaf spreaders! i don't know how your weed got named "chese"-- looks nothing like it to me! does it TASTE like it?
Cheese weed is just a nickname, obviously, and supposedly it's because the leaves are shaped like a cheese wheel. That's what my local herbologist said. (That would be dad.)
Weeding is one of those jobs that keeps coming back to you. If you don't get it-- and I mean REALLY get it-- the first time... Sigh. I've gotten some pretty cool blisters so far this season from weeding alone. Hope your cheese weeds DIE!
Yeah, I hate those "cheese weeds" too - glad I have a name for them now. I have them in my garden and try to catch them when they're small or otherwise I have to get out the huge shovel just to get the roots out. Good luck - and after you weed use Preen so they don't come back again. Happy Weeding.
I can never stay on top of our weeding, it seems. Those cheese weeds sound pretty awful! I think they'd be my least favorite too.
Oh, p.s. I'm at greenbluebirds.blogspot.com now. I changed it.
