Did I hear that right?

I was just chatting with my survivor man who's currently in Middle-of-Nowhere, Alaska. Before we got cut off, I do believe he said that while the beauty and feel of Alaska is everything he'd built Alaska up to be, he wasn't quite as set on moving our family up there due to the cost of living. Was I really on the phone with Aaron? I guess we've become more unified than I realized over these last 6 years! He's putting practical and frugal over wide open spaces and hunting seasons!? And the funniest part is, when he said that his heart isn't quite as set on Alaska as it was, I felt a little let down. I've been gearing up for an Alaskan adventure for years--I think I was starting to get excited. But with that little reality check, our life-after-medical-school suddenly seems so completely up in the air. Although the cell phone reception was pretty shaky. Who knows what he actually said.

Update: Aaron just called from Anchorage, where cell phone reception is quite clear. The first words out of his mouth were, "I really do love Alaska!" He told me he read this post and that his response was, "What have I done?!"

yeah, the cost of living might be more, but you'll need to weigh that with the cost of paying off your student loans by YOURSELVES instead of having alaska take care of them! i always thought you would have an alaskan adventure too, but of course we'd love having you guys a bit closer...

We were supposed to be living in Smalltown, USA (far away from Aurora, CO) long before our 10th anniversary...which is this August. Plans and dreams change and adjust sometimes...it's not a bad thing. :)

It is sort of a strange feeling having everything up in the air, but kind of exciting too. And it's good that Aaron has some time up there to be able to have those impressions.
I love Elodie's mad scientist quote! So funny!

And doesn't Alaska pay you money for each child every year?

Loan repayment, yearly payment per person, those have definitely been attractive to us. So yeah, there's still plenty to talk about with regards to the Alaska question. And Aaron definitely wasn't saying that he doesn't want to live there or that it's out of the question, just that it's up for discussion.

Why move anywhere when Limbo is such a fun place to live? Kidding of course...yeah our AK friends had awesome benefits from being residents there. I have no doubt that you'll know the right thing when it comes down to it. BIG decisions!!

Just letting you two know that Ryan and I wouldn't be unhappy if you wanted to come to Texas for awhile. i am sure Aaron could get a lot more experience of diagnosing more strange things out at Bowie. ;)

Thanks for letting us spend so much time with you. We had a great time hanging out with you and you little family. Hopefully we get to see you again for Christmas!
